Grab a martini, let's demystify menopause.
Today’s Topic: Affirmations
Hi Martinis & Menopause Tribe!
Today I want to talk to you about affirmations. If you read my book, Chapter 3 features a woman named Elaine, and she is suffering from the “Basement Blues”. Elaine doesn’t feel good, she feels very low, and she doesn’t know what to do about it. There are a few strategies to deal with the Basement Blues in Martinis & Menopause, and one of them is to use affirmations.
What are affirmations? Affirmations are simply statements we put out into the world - about how we would like to be in the world, or what we would like to see in the world. There are three things that make up an affirmation. First of all, they need to be in the present tense: I am. I will. Secondly, affirmations need to be positive. For example, you wouldn’t want to say, “I’m going to lose weight.” That’s a negative. It’s better to say, “I am fit and healthy. I am reaching my goals.” The last thing an affirmation needs is to be specific. Instead of saying, “I hope I feel better,” you want to say something like, “Today, I’m going to live my best self. Today, I’m going to rock my world.”
Affirmations are best if you speak them out loud, and they are really great if you write them down where you can see them throughout your day. They help rewire your brain into a positive state. I have affirmations everyday when I walk into my office. I have one that is “I am effin’ fabulous!” So every single day, when I walk into my office to work, I put my brain in the space that I am effin’ fabulous! What does that mean? That I’m going to rock my world today - and I want that for all of you, as well. So I hope you will practice those affirmations, and make them a part of your day!
Until next time - see you later, tribe!
