Ladies, you’re not alone on this journey.
Grab a martini, let’s demystify menopause.
Are you a Hostage to your Hormones?
Are your hormones whacking out and you find yourself doing things you haven’t before?
Does it feel like your body is betraying you? Well, you may have become what I call a HORMONE HOSTAGE, and you are not alone, my friend.
How do you know this is happening?
Perhaps you find yourself at home or work, spitting and spewing scathing remarks to your family or your co-workers; turning into a wicked witch and leaving burned corpses in your wake as you watch yourself lose all emotional control.
This is me, at work.
You wake up multiple times a night with sweat running down all the cracks of your body, unable to fall back to sleep as your mind starts racing with all the stresses of your day…your week…YOUR LIFE. It’s all facing you at 3 AM and you could just scream!
A Bloody Mess.
Ah, yes – the other M word: MENSTRUATION. Perhaps your hostage situation involves Aunt Flo showing up unexpectedly (SURPRISE!), seemingly non-stop, gushing like a horror film’s version of Multnomah Falls.
We’ve had our periods called many lovely things, Driving in the Red Car, The Big Red Monster and my personal favorite, My Moon. Whatever we call it, as our hormones take us hostage, the damn moon rages. Soaking and surprising us when we least expect it.
Food Cravings, Anyone?
Perhaps you are taken hostage by food cravings that you seemingly Can. Not. Control. You are compelled by something other than your rational self when, after just finishing dinner, you polish off that bag of chips and scarf down those leftovers of mac and cheese with bacon, (Mmm-Mmm), and THEN decide, heck, let’s drain that bottle of cabernet!
You KNOW what I’m talking about, right?
My dear woman, you aren’t crazy.
Welcome to the Menopause Zone. You are going through ‘The Change’. You are in perimenopause, or possibly well into menopause and sometimes when we get here, we just don’t recognize ourselves. I get it. THIS is what I mean when I say: You are officially a Hormone Hostage.
Women around the world between the ages of 40-60 will go through this phase of life, and you are not alone. Our bodies change. Our hormones groan. Our relationships flux. Our priorities shift. Understanding what our bodies are going through, and how to relieve the negative effects of change will bring you empowerment to live well.
I speak to women all over the United States and they constantly ask me:
- “Kelli, what can I do to live better?”
- “Kelli, how can I feel better?”
- “Kelli, amid all the stress and change my life and body is going through…HOW CAN I SURVIVE THIS?”
Well, let me tell you, girlfriend.
This blog will be the place; YOUR place, to find knowledge about what in the world is going on with your body. I will concentrate on providing easy-to-understand science (I promise!) on why these things are happening to you, and, most importantly – offer us all a place to connect with others who are going through the same sh*t.
We will hopefully laugh and smile and reach the ‘aha’ moments along the way together. On this blog, we will talk about easy, do-able lifestyle tips that will help you feel better and live better! This is where we discover how to beat the hormone groan - and break free from being a Hormone Hostage!
